Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) When difficult events and traumas occur, either repeatedly or in a single incident, they tend to be stored in the brain in ways that do not heal. EMDR releases them from where they are stored and activates the whole brain to heal the memories. Through visual tracking, alternating auditory sounds or alternating taps of both sides of the body, the entire brain is activated so that all of the information in the brain related to the memory is processed and released. At the end of the treatment, events that used to be highly disturbing often are no longer disturbing at all. Clients report that they are then free to create their lives from a place of peace and healing, without old excess baggage.
